Moor Hall in the News - Solar Panels
Solar panels save Moor Hall Primary School £2,000-a-year
The first two phases of the Energy Savers scheme have seen solar panels added to more than 1,300 homes and 20 other buildings across the city.
Birmingham City Council's Vicky Hewitson, Moor Hall Primary headteacher Andrew Steggall and Coun Brigid Jones inspect the new solar panels at the school. |
New solar panels are set to save a Birmingham school more than £2,000-a-year – equivalent to the cost of powering more than 200 computers.
Moor Hall Primary School in Sutton Coldfield has fixed 160 solar panels to its roof as part of the Birmingham Energy Savers initiative.
The first two phases of the Energy Savers scheme have seen solar panels added to more than 1,300 homes and 20 other buildings across the city.
Moor Hall headteacher Andrew Steggal said: “It is extremely important that the children learn about being ‘eco friendly’.
‘‘In this way we can not only improve our efficiency as a school but, most importantly, encourage children to be proactive in sustaining the world they are growing up in,” he said.
In the third phase of Birmingham Energy Savers, which is set to be launched before Christmas, the council will work with Carillion Energy Services to deliver energy-saving projects to up to 60,000 homes and 1,000 other buildings by 2020.

Cross Country
Good Morning,
Luckily we have had a clear night and the school field has dried up substantially, so Cross country practise will be going ahead this morning.
Please could I ask all children and parents to walk around the school to the field and not cut across the car park as staff are arriving at that time in the morning, and we don't want any accidents!
See you all at 8.20

Latest Poll Results: Summer Holidays
The question asked: What are you most looking forward to about the summer holidays?
The results were interesting - unsurprisingly going away on holiday was the favourite activity, with spending family time at home following in close second.
On the other hand, 10% of the vote was actually for doing chores and housework!
Click the pie-chart to see an enlarged version of the results, and feel free to leave a comment on why you voted the way you did.
In the meantime, why not have a go at our new poll -based around our new school houses!

LEGO Club
LEGO Club began again last week. Both KS1 & KS2 are involved. KS2 have planned a programme covering the next few weeks. The first week we thought about 'Inventions'.
This evening KS1 LEGO Club concentrated on making a small town community. Each of the 5 groups thought about a different aspect of what makes a small community. One group built a house, another built vehicles. Other groups considered a castle and shops. Finally, the last group decided that it was a seaside town and so made a harbour.
Brilliant ideas.
How will KS2 get on tomorrow when they think about Flags. Watch this space....

Inspire a generation
After a fantastic summer of watching the Olympics and now with the Paralympics on, I was wondering whether it has inspired you to take up any new sports? It has certainly got me moving more!
I would really like to collect pictures of pupils with awards you have won, sports you do in and out of school, as part of a school display board to show people how much we enjoy sports at Moor Hall School. They can be football pictures, pictures of medals or trophies you have won, any sports you do-take a picture and bring it into school.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful six weeks off, I know I have! I hope you're all rested and ready to work hard.
I would like to say a big hello and welcome to our new teachers Miss Lilly and Mrs Davey.

Colours of the World
For the last couple of days we at Moor Hall School have had the privilege to borrow an Olympic torch. Some of the children (as well as staff) paid £1 to have their photograph taken with it. The money made is being given to St. Giles Hospice. Yesterday - despite the rain, all the children carried a flag representing many of the countries taking part in the Olympics.Mrs. Clewer was honorary Torch bearer. We walked all around the Junior playground and ended in the Infant playground where we were joined by the children from Ducklings Nursery. They had made their own Olympic torches which they held up proudly. We sang the National Anthem. The sun actually shone as we sang!

Olympic Torch Relay at Moor Hall Primary
With the Olympics right around the corner, ten year 6 children got together to run their own mini-relay with a real Olympic torch.
They started out at Moor Hall School, and persevered through the rain to get to Coppice Primary, where they passed the 'flame' on to the next torch. The rain certainly didn't dampen their spirits!
Some new photos have been added to the events page of our website for this - click here to see them.

The children have made models which you can see below.

Welcome to our visitors from India.
Our visitors arrived in Birmingham on Sunday morning at 8.00a.m. They had been travelling for 24 hours! Their hotel room wasn't ready so they visited my house for a cup of tea and to freshen up.
Then we went for an early lunch. After that they said they'd like to go into the Bullring in Birmingham.
Off we went for some retail therapy.
They were pleased to check into their hotel at 3.30 pm.
Yesterday, delegates representing four schools from the Punjab in northern India visited Moor Hall School.
The children did a fantastic job by welcoming them with music. The delegates were very impessed by the singing and playing - especially the younger children who played the violin.
Many thanks to all the staff who worked so hard with the children to make our assembly a success.
The assembly was followed by a tour of the school. They said the art work around school was impressive and it has given them lots of ideas to take home with them.
They left Moor Hall School at 12.30 for lunch hosted by Mrs. Allen at Whitehouse Common School and to meet The Lord Mayor and his wife the Lady Mayoress. Again the children welcomed them all and enjoyed singing and dancing for them.
We are delighted that Mrs. Gagan Bedi will be spending the rest of the week in school with us here at Moor Hall. She is from Saupin's School. This is the school I spent time in during my visit to India and is our Global Partnership link school. Gagun will be spending time in each class. The children will be considering environmental issues and how we can further develop our links together.
