Here is another song, Land of Hope & Glory, prepared by Mr Watts for you to practise for the VE Day celebrations on Friday.

Poppies

In the last week on this half term we are going to to be decorating the School  Hall with poppies to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One.
The children will be creating poppies at school but it would be fantastic if everyone in our school community contributed to the display.
Please everyone - (parents , grandparents, children, friends ) ,make a poppy!- or lots of poppies!
They can be drawn, sculpted, painted, collage or created in any way you like.
Bring them to school in the week before half term so the staff can create a giant display.
If there are any super artistic ad enthusiastic parents who would like to help please get intouch:)

Moor Hall School Oral History Project

Moor Hall School Oral History Project

As you know History is an important part of the curriculum at school. The children enjoy the visitors and trips out which we use to engage the pupils in their learning.

I would like to add to this engagement by starting an oral history library of the memories of parents, grandparents and friends of the children who attend our school. I see it as a resource which teachers can use with pupils immediately to give greater perspective to how life has changed in the relatively recent past.

Adult participants can record or video short clips (no more than a minute) of themselves talking about specific subjects.

At the moment I suggest participants talking about subjects such as:

·       Moor Hall School (for past pupils or neighbours)

·       My School Life

·       Mere Green

·       Sutton Coldfield

·       Birmingham

·       Transport

·       My home – to include domestic items like telephones- how soon will it be before landlines are a thing of the past?!

·       Toys and games (what did we do before computers?!)

I would also love to get people talking about their memories of World War Two- does anyone know people who were evacuated?

This is not an exhaustive list, if you have any ideas please feel free to follow them up.

When you record your piece, it does not need to be scripted or formal. I would like every clip to start with the participant saying their month and year of their birth, this will add to the historical perspective.

I would like this to be an ongoing resource library which we can build up and  use for years to come.

In the first instance please send your video or audio clips into school via email to enquires@moorhall.bham.sch.uk so Mr Pittaway (our ICT technician)  and I can sort and store them safely. If you have any questions, comments or queries please come and discuss them with me.

Our trip to Aston Hall.

Year 1 had a wonderful time at Aston Hall today learning all about The Great Fire of London. We have added some photographs to the Year 1 page. Please have a look and see which famous people you can spot!

Class 3 Roman Assembly

We have just finished our assembly.

It was great!

Everyone did their best and we think that all the parents and children enjoyed watching.

Year 3 Roman work!

Have a look at the Class 3 page of the website. You will see some excellent work created as Powerpoint presentations. The were made following our visit to Wall to learn about Roman life. I'm sure you will agree that the work shows that the children were inspired by the trip.

 Class 3 have had a great day leaning more about the Stone Age and the Iron Age.

Class 2 eBooks

After quite a few sessions of Computing, Class 2 finished their eBooks about the History of Cadbury today.  Children have been working really hard in pairs to produce their books.  Children used the internet and our class timeline to find out information for themselves and then searched, saved and uploaded  pictures, text and background colours to create their books.  We have some budding non-fiction writers here in Class 2!  I have uploaded a few examples of the children's books into 'Useful documents for parents of Class 2' on the school website. Please take a few minutes to have a look at the children's hard work! (They are PDF files so couldn't be added to the 'Children's Work' section).

Class Three Roman Assembly

On Thursday 14th May at 9.30 the children in Year Three will be performing their class assembly about the Romans. Parents of children in our class are welcome to come and watch!

Year 3 trip to Wall on Thursday.

Ive just looked at the weather forecast for tomorrow (Thursday). It looks a bit chilly in the morning and as Wall is an outside visit I'd really recommend that the children bring a warm coat to wear over their school uniform.

Ruthless Romans

Today Class 3 went to see the Horrible Histories show 'Ruthless Romans' at the Old Rep in Birmingham. We had a great time and really enjoyed the show. @Barmy_Britain

Local Historians Visits Year 5

Year 5 were privileged to have a visit from two local historians on Tuesday 11th June 2013.  We received a delivery of 15 original newspapers from World War II as well as many other artifacts.
