An author comes to school...

Class 3 and  4 were pleased to welcome  Mrs Bellhouse to school today.

She has recently written two fiction books for children. They are called 'Dim the Dark' and 'Terence the Thunder'. The books have been published and they are available to buy on Amazon!

Of course we know Mrs Bellhouse because she is Megan and Danielle's mum!
We are proud because Megan is the illustrator and Danielle was the inspiration behind the books!

School Council attend meeting

Last night the Key Stage Two School Councillors attended a full govenors' meeting.
The pupils gave an update of  some of the  work that is going on in  school at the moment.

Their presentation included Powerpoint slides about our developing use of Question Trees and Working Walls.

The children also explained to the meeting how our house point system has been updated.

They answered questions sensibly and thoughtfully. All the pupils that attended were a credit. They should be very proud of themselves.
Here are the children pictured with our Chair of Govenors Mrs Pam Garrington.

Day 4

Another fabulous day!

Activities for today:
survival skills
blind trail
nature walk
raft building
abseiling
bivi building
rifle shooting!!

Weather:
Extremely cold, but no rain until this evening and then only a wee trickle.

Food:
They are eating well - some are regulars at munching seconds! - many trying new things.

Packing our cases may take a little time, so this may be the last blog from Abernant Lake Hotel.  I will, however, add more photographs when I have the opportunity.

Please prepare your washing machines for an unimaginable amount of Welsh mud!

See you all tomorrow.

Day 4 Photographs

Thank you . . .

Thank you all for your comments.

I was going to load some more photos - but the next session has just started! - guess I'll do that later then.

The children have enjoyed chicken burgers for lunch and are looking forward to the vending machine tonight!

Day 3 photographs

Day 3

So sorry I didn't get the opportunity to update you yesterday; can't think what else I was doing!!!!

Yesterday we were out on the lake.  We all (yes even Mrs Clewer, Mrs Russell & even me!!) all joined the children on the lake.  Lots of fun was had and not too wet.  Some super personal challenges have been achieved again.

The afternoon was filled with fabulous views of the landscape through a 3 hour hill walk.  Both staff and children coped really well with the hike.  I have to say, this year is the first year I have joined this activity (normally I would catch-up on the blog), it was simply amazing.  Your children's map reading skills are to be admired.  Even the instructors were impressed!!

We are currently all line up, ready and waiting for our breakfast and the fun of the day ahead.

Be very proud of your children; they are polite, kind and working as a team.

Day 2 Photographs

Day 2

Wow! What a day!

Breakfast was, as always, amazing.  Everyone ate heartily in preparation for the day ahead.

The weather continues to be kind to us.  It's a little chilly, but as yet, it hasn't poured on us.  The mud is simply making some activities more fun - to the point of having to hose muddy children down to identify them - they have l-o-v-e-d the mud!!!

We witnessed children setting themselves ambitious challenges.  All exceeded their own (and our) expectations.

We really can't express how proud we are of your children.  The instructors are singing the praises of your children too.  Many have commented on the way we entertain each other on the piano before mealtimes.  Others have said how polite the children are.  And yet more have expressed their admiration of the team-spirit and fun that the groups share.

A fabulous day once again; thank you for the privilege of sharing your children with us.

Photographs of Day 1

Day 1

A super coach journey to a lovely picnic area.  The children sat and munched chatting to their friends, whilst watching the ducks and a barge drifting by.
On arrival, the children were excited to see Abernant Lake Hotel.  And with no time to spare they dragged their cases up to their rooms and were off to the first of the activities.
Comments from the children so far:
'The best thing about today was when we had a mud contest!  It was awesome!'
'The best bit about today was sitting down and chilling in bed and talking and enjoying the company of my room mates.  Also I loved dinner!'
'The best bit was dinner . . .EPIC!'
'My favourite part of the day was finding out who was in my dormitory and my activity groups.'

You should all feel very proud of your children.  They are using their manners well; plenty of 'please' and 'thank you'.  Bedtime has been trouble free (so far!).  Most of them are desperate to go to sleep so they can wake up and have breakfast!!!!

Looking forward to: fencing, archery, zip wire, rifle shooting, obstacle course, initiative exercises and the blind trail tomorrow.

Alex will be selling homemade orange juice after school.
Thea's mum is swimming a mile.
Dylan's mum is helping to answer the phones tonight! So when you donate you might be talking to her.
Matthew has made a cherry and raspberry pie.
Let's hope lots of money is raised.
