Tuesday 15th March 2016 - Fun in the Sun

The day began with a hearty breakfast - the children loved the full English - as did the staff!  What an array of activities: compass skills, archery, obstacle course, rifle shooting, fencing, orienteering, survival skills, the blind trail (by far the muddiest task this year), nature trail, zip wire, lake challenge and climbing!!  The children are happy, healthy and really enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.  They have impressed instructors with their manners - and the three of us with their immaculate rooms - room inspections have never scored so highly.  You should be extremely proud of your children; they are working collaboratively, playing inclusively and taking responsibility independently - it is a privilege to watch them learn in such a fabulous setting - thank you.  Here is a sample of photographs from today...

Arrived in Abernant Monday 14th March 2016

The children were absolutely fabulous today.  We left school promptly. Got Welshpool without any problems and enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch together.  Even having a bit of bother with the fan-belt didn't stop our fun.  A local company came to our rescue and took us the remaining 12 miles.

Once at Abernant Lake Hotel we were thrust straight into the thick of it.  The children were given their room and activity groups and once the fire drill was complete we did our first two activities and had a lovely dinner.  We ended the evening with a hot chocolate and all the children were in their beds at 9:30pm with lights out at 10:00pm.

Parents, please feel very proud of your children; they did both you and the school proud today.

Abernant

It was really good to hear that the children had arrived at Abernant safely this afternoon. The journey had certainly been eventful - the coach was within striking distance of the centre when it broke down. Thankfully, the team at Manor Adventure came to the rescue and provided transportation for the last few miles while the coach company sent out the repair team!

The weather forecast looks promising for this week  -

Year 5 - Abernant Preparation

Excitement is definitely mounting in Year 5...

We really are looking forward to our residential week in Wales.  Here are just a few reminders:
  • label EVERYTHING with your name clearly
  • pack your own case (with some help if you like)
  • purses, containing no more than £7 (in change), need to be handed in by Wednesday 9th March (tomorrow)
  • all medical forms need to be completed and return by Wednesday 9th March (tomorrow)
  • all medication must be given to Mrs Russell or Mrs Collins

Travel sickness medication
Travel sickness medication must be taken at home before our journey to Wales.
On our return journey to school, if you supply both the medication and the instructions for use, we will administer appropriately.

And finally...
Please remember - no sweets to be packed in suitcases - we will check!

Class 2 Book Trailers ... A must see!!

As part of 'Book Week' Class 2 have made Book Trailers in the style of block buster film trailers using the iMovie app.  The children worked in small groups to create their trailers.  The children worked really hard on them and I think you'll agree they are pretty amazing!  Steven Speilberg's in the making!! ;) Here is one from Henry, Oscar, Fynnie, Frankie and Dante.  Watch this space for uploads of the others!

'Book Week'

We have had a fantastic week here in Class 2 celebrating 'Book Week'.  We have been so busy with a range of activities.  I have uploaded a couple of albums to our section of the website for you to take a look at the wonderful things the children have been up to!  :)

I have also uploaded a few photographs that I managed to snap from this morning's Mother's Day Assembly.

KS1 Star Readers

As part of Book Week, today KS1 had a special Star Readers instead of our usual Star Writer's assembly.  Three children from Class 2 were awarded with certificates and bookmarks.  I have uploaded some photographs to our section of the website if you would like to find out who they were!
