Easter Bonnet Parade

I have added some photographs from the Easter bonnet parade last Friday. There were some really excellent entries and it took the whole of the school's SLT to decide upon winners! Thank you to everyone who took part - it was a great effort!

The photographs are under 'news - special events'.

Year 3 homework and spellings

You can find the spellings and the maths homework in the year 3 area of the website.
I'm afraid the weather diary homework wouldn't load up correctly.
If you haven't got your worksheet already ask Mr Winter and look at the weather over the weekend. Then  record  your observations in your homework book.
Thank you
Mr Winter

Abernant Day 5

What an absolutely amazing week Class 5 had in Wales! The children returned safe, tired yet excited back to school yesterday evening, no doubt eager to be reunited with family and looking forward to sharing stories about their weekly adventures. I am thrilled with how much the children have achieved this week and I am truly proud to have accompanied them on this great opportunity. On a personal level I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff who accompanied us: Mrs Clewer, Mrs Russell, Mrs Petty, Mrs Barton and Mrs Parsons - we had an excellent time, thank you for your hard work and dedication. I would also like to thank the parents for their support and kind words upon our return, there will be opportunity to view all of the excellent photos taken of the children throughout the week. Most of all I would like to thank the children of Class 5, what superstars you all were, I hope you will all agree that this was a week that we will never forget! Abernant 2015!!!!!!!!!!

Abernant Day 4

What another amazing day here at Abernant! The children are sleeping really well. We enjoyed a whole morning of kayaking and canoeing, it was brilliant! The children got the hang of it really quickly, there were only a few capsized boats! Needless to say we demolished our lunch after 3 hours of furious paddling! Most groups also participated in the nature trail today which was really interesting, they made bandage out of moss and twigs. In the evening children enjoyed either abseiling, orienteering or zip wire. I was especially impressed with the group doing the zip wire because they did it in the dark. Me and Mrs Parsons also had a go, it was very scary! I am so proud of the children, they have surpassed all of my expectations and I know that they will all leave here tomorrow with some great memories and personal achievements, it has been a pleasure to accompany them on this adventure, thank you! I am sure that parents are looking forward to being reunited with the children tomorrow, I know they will be very excited to see and share stories with their family. We are leaving Abernant at 2pm and hope to arrive at school around 6pm, school will keep you informed. See you tomorrow! :)

Abernant Day 3

Well Class 5 are halfway through their Abernant adventure and having a fabulous time! Everyone had a great nights sleep last night. The most exciting activity children had today was raft building! Children seemed a little too eager to get wet! Yet they had a great time building and then testing their rafts. One group also went down the zip wire today, I was so impressed with how brave everyone was! Mrs Russell also did it (I have video evidence too!). We also learned some survival skills and children had a go at using a splint to create a spark for a fire. Two groups participated in blind trail today, where they had to do an obstacle course blindfolded (very amusing to watch I must say!) I have never seen the children so enthusiastic! Let's just say the children got a tad muddy.....(please refer to photos below). Everyone has also had a go at rock climbing, there seems to be a correlation between distance climbed and length of the children's legs! The children are still eating well and the meatballs and jam rolly polly went down a treat at teatime! They have just had a drink and a snack and are now in bed ready for a busy day of kayaking and canoeing tomorrow. Yesterday the children each wrote a postcard, hopefully you should get them on Friday (fingers crossed none of them get lost in the post!). Myself, the staff and the children are sending our best wishes to everyone thinking about us at home :)

Abernant Day 2

Wow! We have enjoyed a day of fantastic sunshine here in Wales for our first full day of activities. The children had a good nights sleep last night and no one was up in the night. They devoured a full English breakfast this morning, the bacon and hash browns were the most popular! Every group participated in Lake Challenge today which was a zip wire across a lake, the children enjoyed it and almost everybody took a leap of faith and swung across the lake, I was so proud of them. Other activities we enjoyed today were: obstacle course, fencing, rifles and orienteering. The children particularly liked getting very muddy on the obstacle course! They are all looking forward to a good night's sleep tonight. I am really pleased with how all of the children have settled and they are doing both themselves, their parents and our school proud :)

**** Please note, as I alternate between groups daily I cannot guarantee that each child within the class will appear in a photo on every blog, I aim to make sure each child is seen at least twice over the week on the blog so please don't panic if your child happens not to appear on the photo for each day. Every staff member takes lots of photos, which I will put into a gallery once I return to school and the internet connection is a bit more reliable!

Abernant Day 1

We have arrived safe and sound in Wales! We had an uneventful journey and enjoyed our stop at Welshpool. The children have settled into their rooms nicely and have enjoyed getting unpacked and creating a poster for their doors. The children split up into 3 groups and for their first activity they ether did archery, fencing or den building. We enjoyed a tasty chicken or gammon dinner followed by apple crumble. After dinner we all went on an evening walk through the town. The weather was rainy to begin with but the rain cleared after dinner. The children are currently in their pyjamas getting ready for a hot chocolate before bed. We are having a great time and the children are looking forward to the various activities tomorrow, especially zip wire and lake challenge. Thank you for waving us off this morning. Will keep you updated tomorrow night :)

PTA Meeting

We are holding our next PTA Meeting on Wednesday 11th March at 7:00pm in the school hall

April-May Extended School Booking Forms

Due to children in year five being at Abernant between Monday 9th and Friday 13th March, booking forms for all clubs will be handed out on Monday 16th March rather than Friday 13th March. This is because all clubs are on a first come first serve basis and it wouldn't be fair to the children who could not access the paperwork  at the same time as everyone else.
