After the long coach journey we arrived safe and sound via the trusty SatNav!
We had a tour of the hotel, which by the way is lovely and clean. We are on the top floor and the views will be lovely when it stops raining!!
Activities started last night. The children had fun doing the Compass Training, Initiative Exercises and the Blind Trail. The latter involved a lot of mud, which obviously the children hugely enjoyed!
Dinner was wonderful; everybody found something on the menu that they enjoyed and with the self-service drinks we were all fed and watered extremely well.
The final activities today were Fencing, Blind Trail (more mud then!) and Abseiling. The fencing involved a certain amount of determination, agility and accuracy . . . two out of three ain't bad! For some reason the children took great delight in slapping their teachers round the face with their fencing gloves (this was reciprocated in true dueling fashion). As confidence grew so did the strengths of the slaps, however full body armour was worn by children and staff alike.
We settled down quickly to our first night - I believe we may have set an Abernant record for lights out - although that is yet to be confirmed (all children were sound asleep by 10:30pm, yes honestly!).
In brief: a successful first day and a settled first night with both children and staff anticipating a fun day ahead of us.
We are hoping to update the blog each evening, but please be patient if it happens to be after your bedtime. I'm sure you would agree that bedtime stories have priority.
